“She smiled defiantly, knowing her skin looked even more enticing in the moonlight.” Vesna

It was a wonderful sunny day when she finally decided to go out. Although she hated the heat, some strange force made her go for a walk that day.
The sun was constantly shining in her eyes, causing additional discomfort. She was sweating (every time she was among people plus the heat), and now this. She forgot her sunglasses again. Well, that was nothing new regarding her condition. She was not habituated to those daily tasks, including essential ones such as showering, eating, or walking.

Why did she make such a stupid decision in the first place? She blamed herself for having a difficult life with no income and with a man who was nothing more but a bum and alcoholic. Thank God he worked a lot, so she didn’t have to spend her days looking at his hideous face. He made her feel sick.

The nights were a completely different story. From cursing to beatings and threats. Why didn’t she leave him? She felt desperate, the days passed, and she had no will to leave. All her hopes were dashed when she miscarried. Everything was pointless. Depression and anxiety colored her days, and he started drinking even more. She thought it was her punishment for being unable to be a mom.

She sat down in the first café to calm down and stop her thoughts, heart palpitations, and all the discomfort she had felt since leaving the house. She found shade under a yellow umbrella and decided to treat herself to her favorite drink, which she hadn’t tried in a long time. Cucumber juice mixed with lemonade is the perfect way to cool off. The waiter smiled at her because hardly anyone ordered it. Her gaze lingered long enough for her to notice that he had dimples in his cheeks as he smiled.

She quickly turned her head to the other side before another cold sweat covered her body.
